What you will need:

  • Cell phone
  • Data cable/Bluetooth/or be able to email your phone
  • Plenty of .wav's in your music collection
  • Editing software
  • The want to stick it to T-Mobile&trade for telling you that you "cant"

  • Step 1

First, you need to download Yamaha's .wav converter here.
To the right, I provided a screenshot of the application.
    Step 2

Now, you need some .wav's in your music collection. Once you find the part of a song/clip you want
for your ringtone. Then use the application of your choice to cut the segment out.
(I use Nero's Waveditor.. View.. Click on that link to open
a small popup window that will show an example.)
    Step 3

Ok, now that you've got the segment of a song/clip,
save it as a .wav to your desktop. Now open Yamaha's&trade SMAF converter
and drag and drop the file into it. Click (or rename it if you like first)
the "ok" button and it will do the rest, placing the newly converted
.wav to an .mmf file. Now simply right click on the .mmf
file and choose to rename it. Name it ring.mid and press enter.
(It will probably ask if you are sure you want to change
the extension...etc..etc just click yes or ok) Now, open your email client and
attach the .mid file to an email and mail it to your phone.
When the email gets to your phone, open it, and then choose options
... and scroll down untill you see the "save" option...
TADAAAAAA... (you might need to play around with the .wav
and its volume some.. its not grade "A" quality but..
    it IS free.
